Being pregnant can be as miraculous as it is inquisitive. The questions seem to be endless as far as what is happening inside and what will happen as the months progress. pregnancy is exciting and can also be scary, especially for new mothers. To get a jumpstart on some of these questions, look into the book "Mayo Clinic Guide To A Healthy Pregnancy."
The book is extremely informative, and it was written by physicians that are also parents. There is nothing more frustrating to some people as trying to understand what it going on with their bodies from someone who has never experienced it. That is just another great selling point that the doctors that are parents came together to write such a resourceful book. If you are not familiar with the Mayo Clinic, they are one of the best hospital organizations in the world. They have the top of the class doctors inside their long hallways, and from personal experience, I can attest to being a patient in a Mayo Clinic and the care is top notch.
The book reviews every stage of pregnancy and virtually every single possible ailment that could arise throughout those nine months. They also go into great detail about the childbirth experience and what you can expect. The obstetrics experts review serious topics such as entopic pregnancies and preeclampsia. Preeclampsia can be very threatening if you know nothing about it. It has the ability to raise your blood pressure and also be a reflection of the baby experiencing some form of stress. Heartburn is a common issue from most pregnant women at some point during their pregnancy, as the baby makes it very hard for them to continue digesting their foods properly and some have theories that if the baby has a lot of hair they will give the mother more heartburn than others. Yeast infections can be developed during pregnancy as well, which is also covered in the book. Prenatal testing and what each test means and why it is given to you are also fully detailed inside this book. The book goes into detail for each month of the pregnancy as to what you can expect and what symptoms may be completely normal to not worry yourself.
These types of books may not be there to hold your hand through the labor and delivery portion of your pregnancy, but they are extremely useful. Women are notorious for being overly bothered by the smallest pain while pregnant always aiming to protect their young baby. By reading up on the various symptoms and each detail of the nine months, you will feel more at ease and also a bit more informed for when that big day does arrive.
I had actually never heard of this book until I read this article. Its peaked my interest enough that I'm definitely planning on getting it for my best friend who is pregnant for the first time.
ReplyDeleteThis definitely sounds like an intersting book!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the post; it can be frustrating to read about things that are happening to your body when the person writing has never experienced it. They mean well and I'm sure the doctors who write the books are well-studied, but there are some things you can't get from a book. Doctors who are parents would know things like this from both sides.
ReplyDeleteI like that the people who wrote it are not only doctors but parents as well. Sometimes when you are reading books on pregnancy and childhood development, you get the impression it's strictly from a psychological and physiological point of view instead of from people that actually have had kids.
ReplyDeleteI have this book and it is great! I like it even better than "What to Expect When You're Expecting"!
