Awesome And Useful Mother's Day Gifts

I probably don't have to tell you that Mother's Day is this Sunday. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past week or so, you've seen countless commercials and store displays for flowers, cards, 'trinkets'...you name it. Whether you are a mom yourself or want to find a good way to honor the moms in your life, the choices of presents can be overwhelming. What are some things you can give your mom for Mother's Day that will do more than collect dust on the mantlepiece? Here are a few ideas.
  • A cleaning service. I think we can all agree that there are things in our homes (baseboards, etc) that are ridiculously tough and tedious to clean. Why not spare Mom the trouble by hiring someone else to do it? Services such as MerryMaids and MollyMaid send out professional housekeepers out by the hour to give your house a workup from top to bottom. An hour might not sound like much, but you would be surprised at how much a team of two or three maids can do in that time! This isn't to imply that your house isn't already clean; it's just nice to have someone else do it for a change! Check out MerryMaids.com and MollyMaid.com for more information. Yes, they do windows. :)
  • Child and/or home care. If you cannot provide them yourself, Care.com has listings for every kind of home service you will ever need. Whether it's a babysitter, errand boy or 'sugar daddy', you can find it here. Okay, maybe not the last one, but you get my drift.
  • Virtual presents. Just because you're strapped for cash or live far away doesn't mean that you can't still send your mom a nice gift. Sites such as VirtualGifts4U have an impressive array of free 'presents' you can send to your mom over the internet. Trust me, chocolate-covered strawberries, a suitcase full of money or Brad Pitt in a tank top are much better than the usual inbox fare! She might not be able to taste spend or touch them, but she'll definitely get a kick out of them! Unlike Facebook gifting applications, your mom won't have to be a member of the social network to get them.
And last but not least:
  • Chocolate! Few things say, 'I love you, Mom!' like sweet, cocoa-flavored goodness! Sites such as Godiva.com and Virtualchocolate.com allow you to send pretty much any chocolate thing you can imagine, and some you probably can't! For example, Vosgeschocolate.com offers chocolate-covered bacon treats. For more general gifts, Amazon.com also offers a wide range of other unique food items all packed and ready to go! For those who are 'counting calories', Virtualchocolate also sends online 'presents'. That way, she can indulge to her heart's content and not have to worry about fitting into her favorite jeans. That's always a plus!
I hope that I've given you a few ideas for fun ways to honor the moms in your life. Don't get me wrong-flowers and all the rest will always be welcome gifts. I just thought I'd mention some things that are a little bit 'off the beaten path'. The last one might seem kind of ordinary, but show me a woman who says she doesn't like chocolate and I'll show you a woman who just hasn't had 'the good stuff'. And, well, there's always Brad Pitt in a tank top. :)
